Welcome to my site - a Martin K tutee production!
Hello there.
My name is Neil and I am currently embarking on the odyssey that is a PGCE Primary at the University of Manchester. This website will provide an insight into my ICT progress as my professional development (hopefully) advances over the upcoming year.
I will be updating a blog as the course unfolds, and will endeavour to include as many tips, facts, ideas and stories along the way.

About me...

I don't think I always wanted to be a teacher. Not a good start you say?
I grew up with a love of the great outdoors (film included). Well, it was actually more of an affinity for all the creatures and critters that live in the great outdoors if i'm honest, which I am.
I completed a Geography degree at the University of Manchester in 2007 and since then my work and voluntary commitments have conspired to get me more and more involved and interested in the world of education.
After years in the wilderness (not literally) working in varied roles including ecological surveying and sports coaching, I finally settled and spent the last school year as a TA, learning the ropes in different schools until I was captured* by a year 4 class in the New Year.
I am now gearing up for an intensive PGCE year because, after all that, I do want to be a teacher!
*not actually captured.

common lizard (Zootoca vivipara)
As mentioned above I am a big fan of natural history, an often overlooked subject of the youth (and not-so-youth) of today. I recently had the opportunity to spend a week in the Lake District with a year 6 group and could see at first hand the enjoyment they experienced when not being stuck in front of a TV screen. This is something that I feel is very important in our ever-changing society; to encourage more awareness and appreciation for the environment.
I like to get out into the natural world and take photos with my very average camera. You can see some of my handywork at the top of each page as you navigate around. I think I chose these pictures to keep me smiling during the cold winter months (and to display my ability to resize and upload - a basic but useful ICT skill to have in cyberspace!).
There's so much to learn online these days, so I'd like to think we could use ICT to get children more enthusiastic about what's out there and about the variety of technology they could be using at school!

...and finally!
This is where the ICT really kicks in! Use the links on the left of each page to explore my site, uncovering a plethora of both useful and useless* information as you go.
